Case Study: Public Charger for A Venue

EV Charger Stations (AC Chargers) for Rathmines Bowling Club

Project Overview

Future Charging Solutions delivered an NSW Government–approved EV charging solution equipped with smart billing and dynamic load management technology.

During the project, our team successfully integrated two 22 kW chargers into the existing electrical infrastructure, which was already operating near its full nominal capacity of 329 A, with 347 A previously allocated to existing circuits. By leveraging available capacity from the site’s solar energy system, we ensured sustainable operation without the need for costly switchboard upgrades.

To achieve this, a Dynamic Load Management (DLM) system was installed within the main switchboard (MSB), intelligently regulating charging power in real time to match available load. This ensures safe operation, prevents overload, and maintains power stability during peak demand periods.

As the chargers are open to public use, Smart Charge billing software was commissioned to monitor energy consumption, manage user access, and enable cashless credit card payments through an integrated gateway — providing full transparency and automated reporting for the client.

Key Features

  • Dynamic Load Management (DLM):
Automatically regulates charger power draw based on available capacity — ensuring safe operation without switchboard upgrades.

    Smart Billing Integration:
Powered by Smart Charge, enabling public access, user tracking, and credit card payment functionality.

    Grant-Ready Design:
Fully compliant with NSW Regional Destination Charger Grant requirements, using government-approved hardware and standards.

    Energy Efficiency:
Leverages on-site solar production to reduce grid load and operating costs during daylight hours.

Challenges and Solutions

Challenge 1: Limited Switchboard Capacity
The existing building infrastructure could not support multiple EV chargers operating simultaneously.
Solution: Integrated Dynamic Load Management to balance demand automatically and prevent overload.

Challenge 2: Public Access & Payment Requirement
The site required a reliable way to monitor and bill multiple public users.
Solution: Installed Smart Charge platform with cloud-based billing, monitoring, and reporting.

Challenge 3: Outdoor Compliance
Installation required weatherproof and durable equipment for public use.
Solution: Selected IP54-rated TriBus chargers with secure mounting and lockable isolators.

Project Outcome

Future Charging Solutions delivered a grant-ready, scalable, and intelligent EV charging proposal for a regional site — maximising available solar power while maintaining network safety.
