Hospitality begins before check-in

A thoughtful amenity.
A simpler guest journey.

For an EV-driving guest, knowing where to charge is part of planning a trip. On-site charging lets them settle in, enjoy your property and prepare for the next leg of their journey.

Future Charging Solutions helps hotels in Sydney and NSW plan EV charging around their guests and their building. We match the charger, access and operating model to your site — with independent advice across leading brands.

Charging that belongs in the guest experience, with a practical plan behind it.
01

Help guests plan with confidence

Publish clear details about charger type, access, pricing and availability so guests know what to expect before they arrive.

02

Keep the experience effortless

Use visible signs, simple start instructions and an appropriate payment or access method for your property.

03

Make daily operation manageable

Agree on bay etiquette, a support contact and monitoring arrangements so your team has a clear process.

The right pace for every stay

Match charging to the way
your guests spend their time.

More power is not always the better solution. Start with how long vehicles stay parked, available electrical capacity and whether charging is a guest amenity or a public service.

Overnight & extended stays

AC destination charging

A natural starting point for hotel, motel and resort guests who park for several hours. Multiple appropriately sized AC chargers can be more useful than one higher-powered unit.

Typical dedicated AC options: 7–22 kW
Actual rate depends on the vehicle and site.

Shorter visits & public access

DC charging

Worth assessing for properties with shorter-stay visitors, destination restaurants or a suitable route location. The business case needs to account for utilisation, power and operating costs.

Power and equipment selected for the site.
Higher demand may require electrical upgrades.

Boutique stays to larger resorts

A staged rollout

Start with a suitable number of charging bays, then plan cable pathways, switchboard capacity and management controls for future demand.

A service model that suits your property

Complimentary, paid
or a little of both?

Balance the guest experience with the cost of delivering it. Explore three approaches to hotel EV charging.

An amenity included in the stay.

Offer charging as part of your hospitality package, with a clear policy for eligibility and fair use. The property covers the agreed charging costs.

  • Decide which guests or bookings are eligible.
  • Set a clear allowance or fair-use policy.
  • Track usage so the cost remains visible.

A clear price for a convenient service.

Set a transparent tariff to help recover electricity and operating costs. Revenue depends on demand and the full cost of providing the service.

  • Show the tariff and any parking rules before use.
  • Choose compatible tap-to-pay, QR, app or RFID access.
  • Allow for transaction, software and maintenance costs.

Guest benefits, with sensible limits.

Combine a guest allowance or preferred tariff with paid charging for additional use or other visitors, where supported by your charging platform.

  • Separate overnight guests, staff and public users.
  • Keep inclusions and extra charges easy to understand.
  • Confirm platform capabilities before selecting hardware.

Access, billing and payment options depend on the selected hardware, software and service agreements.

Behind the experience

Good design starts
with the whole property.

  • Electrical capacity & load managementAssess switchboards and peak demand from kitchens, air conditioning and other building services. Compatible load management can adjust EV charging within the site’s available capacity.
  • Parking, accessibility & presentationConsider cable reach, pedestrian routes, lighting, signage, charger protection and convenient access. Choose equipment and placement that fit your property.
  • Connectivity & ongoing supportConfirm reliable communications, monitoring and a support process. Check platform compatibility and any recurring fees before committing.
  • Solar, reporting & future demandConsider solar integration where practical, track charging energy and plan for expansion. Sustainability reporting should reflect measured usage and the electricity actually supplied.

Details that matter

Your hotel charging
questions, answered.

Practical guidance for owners, operators and property managers planning EV charging in Sydney and NSW.

How many EV chargers does a hotel need?

Start with your parking capacity, guest enquiries, typical length of stay and expected charging demand. There is no single charger-to-room ratio that suits every property. A staged design can provide an initial number of charging bays while allowing for expansion.

Are AC or DC chargers better for hotels?

AC destination charging is often a practical fit for overnight guests because vehicles remain parked for several hours. DC charging can suit shorter visits or a public charging offer, but needs a separate assessment of power, site layout, costs and expected use.

Should hotel EV charging be free or paid?

Both can work. Complimentary charging can form part of the guest experience; paid charging can help recover operating costs. A hybrid approach may offer a guest allowance or a separate visitor tariff, where the chosen platform supports it. Make the terms clear before charging begins.

Can we restrict charging to hotel guests?

Yes, with compatible access controls such as RFID or an approved app or charging platform. We can help you separate guest, staff and public access. Available payment methods and tariff controls depend on the hardware and software selected.

Will the property need an electrical upgrade?

Not always, but this needs assessment. Existing capacity, peak building demand, charger quantity and charging speed all matter. Dynamic load management can adjust charging within an agreed electrical limit; it does not create additional supply capacity.

What affects hotel EV charger installation costs?

The charger type, number of bays, cable routes, switchboard work, civil works, connectivity, payment system and ongoing software or maintenance services all affect cost. An itemised proposal should distinguish upfront installation costs from recurring operating charges.

Can charging work with our solar panels?

Potentially. Compatible chargers, metering and energy controls can coordinate charging with available solar generation. Overnight guests may have limited overlap with solar production, so the design should also consider daytime visitors, building demand and any battery system.

What about approvals and disruption to guests?

Confirm who can approve changes to the property, including the owner, landlord or strata body where relevant. Site-specific planning and electrical requirements need to be checked. We plan cable routes, access and installation staging around your property’s operation, then commission the system and provide a handover.
