EV CHARGING FINANCE · AUSTRALIA
Plan your charging investment.Choose a funding model that fits.
Compare equipment finance, rent-to-own and charging-as-a-service for your property or business.
Future Charging Solutions helps define your project and can introduce finance options through our partners. Availability, approval, costs and terms depend on the applicant, site and proposed arrangement.

THREE MODELS TO EXPLORE
EV charging funding for businesses and properties
The funding structure should support the way you intend to own and operate your chargers. Compare any proposal with an outright purchase as well as the alternatives below. A lower initial payment can change cash flow, but it does not necessarily mean a lower total cost.
Financing your investment
Explore finance for an agreed charging project rather than paying the entire eligible cost upfront. The proposed facility determines repayments, security, ownership arrangements and which project items can be funded.
Consider: the full amount repayable, fees, interest structure, any final payment and early repayment conditions.
Explore project finance →Charging as a Service
A service arrangement may combine access to charging equipment with agreed operational services. It can be considered by apartment buildings and commercial properties that want a different ownership and management model.
Consider: contract length, site contributions, user tariffs, service inclusions, equipment ownership and what happens when the agreement ends.
Explore CaaS →Rent to own
Rent-to-own arrangements spread payments over an agreed period with a specified pathway to ownership. The agreement needs to set out when and how title transfers and any payment required at the end.
Consider: total payments, maintenance responsibility, insurance, early exit conditions and the ownership transfer terms.

Make the proposal easy to compare
Upfront and ongoing costs
Ask for a complete schedule of initial contributions, regular payments, fees, electricity, connectivity, software and payment-processing charges. Confirm whether installation, civil works or electrical upgrades sit outside the arrangement.
Ownership and control
Establish who owns the chargers and backbone, who controls pricing and user access, and who holds the software administrator account. Check rights to relocate equipment or change the operating platform.
Maintenance and support
Identify the services included, support hours, response targets, parts and labour exclusions, and responsibility for damage. A financed asset is not automatically covered by a maintenance package.
End-of-term arrangements
Ask about final payments, transfer of ownership, renewal, removal and reinstatement obligations. Check the consequences of selling the property, ending a lease or exiting the contract early.
Build the business case around realistic use
Model expected charging demand against energy and operating costs. Include quieter periods and the time it may take for use to grow. Charging income, retail spending and property-value benefits should not be treated as guaranteed sources of repayment.
For a strata scheme, clarify the contracting entity, approval process, common-property responsibilities and how residents will be charged. For leased premises, align the equipment agreement with landlord consent and the remaining lease term.
For a general introduction to ownership and repayment trade-offs, see the Australian Government’s guide to leasing or buying equipment. Ask your accountant or adviser how a proposed arrangement applies to your organisation.
A CLEAR STARTING POINT
From project brief to a reviewable proposal
Agree what the site needs
Share the location, users, parking spaces and charging goals. A site assessment helps establish the equipment and infrastructure scope before funding is discussed in detail.
Compare suitable arrangements
We can discuss relevant models and introduce a finance partner where appropriate. The provider will explain its application requirements, eligibility assessment and proposed terms.
Confirm the full commitment
Review the written commercial terms alongside the installation and support scope. Confirm approvals, responsibilities and timing before entering an agreement or scheduling works.
What to bring to the first discussion
- Your property type, location and whether you own or lease the site.
- The expected users, number of initial charging bays and expansion plans.
- Available site drawings or an existing electrical assessment.
- Your preferred ownership model and indicative project budget.
- Any landlord, strata or internal approval requirements.
Financial documents requested by a lender or finance partner should be provided through that provider’s agreed secure process. An initial project discussion is not a credit approval.
COMMON QUESTIONS
EV charging finance FAQs
Can a project have no upfront payment?
Some arrangements may reduce the initial contribution, but this is not available or suitable for every applicant or site. Confirm exactly which costs are financed and which remain payable upfront. The written offer determines the terms.
Is finance approval guaranteed?
No. Approval and terms depend on the provider’s assessment and the proposed transaction. We do not promise approval, a particular rate or an approval timeframe.
Does CaaS include all maintenance?
The contract determines the service scope. Check support hours, servicing, parts, labour, damage exclusions and responsibilities for electricity, network connectivity and payment services.
Will we own the chargers at the end?
That depends on the model and agreement. A service arrangement may not transfer ownership. A rent-to-own or finance proposal should clearly state the ownership position and any conditions or final payments.
Can grants be combined with finance?
Possibly, but the grant programme and finance arrangement must both permit it. Confirm eligibility, timing and treatment of funded costs before committing. Do not assume a grant will be awarded or paid before repayments begin.
Are repayments tax deductible?
Tax treatment depends on the arrangement and your circumstances. Ask a registered tax professional to review the proposal. This page does not promise a deduction or a particular accounting treatment.
