Project Overview
Future Charging Solutions delivered a complete Level 1 EV Charging Backbone for a residential apartment development in Meadowbank, NSW. This project covered the installation, commissioning, and network integration of a new dedicated EV switchboard and resident charge points across the building's basement car park — giving apartment residents reliable, individually billed charging at their own parking bays.
The solution comprised a new EV distribution board, dedicated circuits and switched socket outlets at each bay, supporting communications cabling, and new energy metering — all integrated with the building's nominated EV charging network operator for usage monitoring and billing. The result is a scalable, network-ready backbone designed to support growing EV adoption across the building.

Dedicated EV Charging Backbone:
Installed a dedicated EV distribution board with eight individual circuits to resident parking spaces, creating a scalable EV charging backbone designed for future expansion.
Individually Metered Charge Points:
Installed dedicated circuits for each charging outlet, enabling safe operation, individual usage monitoring, and accurate resident billing through the network platform.
Network & Communications Infrastructure:
Installed communications cabling and a dedicated network switch to connect all charge points and energy metering to the EV charging management platform.
Energy Metering Upgrade:
Installed a new Schneider energy meter to monitor the building's electrical load, integrated with the EV charging network for real-time monitoring and future load management.
Compliant & Tested:
Installed in accordance with AS/NZS 3000 and 3017 standards, with full testing, O&M documentation, and a 52-week warranty.
Challenges and Solutions
Challenge 1: Post-Tensioned Basement Slabs Drilling for new cable routes risked striking pre-stressed structural cable.
Solution: Worked through existing penetrations and opened up carefully before committing to any new routes — protecting the slab and minimising new penetrations.
Challenge 2: Working Around a Live Switchboard The new metering had to go into a switch room the whole site relies on.
Solution: Coordinated a controlled power shutdown to install safely, then restored supply with minimal disruption to residents.
Challenge 3: Cabling Eight Bays Across Multiple Levels The charge points were spread across different basement levels.
Solution: Planned individual routes for each bay through existing risers, trays, and conduit — keeping runs tidy and the finish consistent.
Challenge 4: Reliable Network Connectivity Tight penetrations risked data cabling picking up interference from power cabling.
Solution: Ran dedicated Cat6 to the operator's PoE router with Wi-Fi access points, keeping data and power separated for reliable monitoring and billing.
Project Outcome
Future Charging Solutions delivered a turnkey EV charging backbone for the Meadowbank development, providing reliable, individually circuited charging for eight resident parking spaces. The infrastructure includes network connectivity to the building's EV charging operator and is designed for long-term reliability, easy maintenance, and future expansion.
